A cultural festival in Essex for everyone to celebrate the London 2012 Games...The Call has gone out far and wide... The incredible Glass Bead Game is to be played for the first time in a thousand years, coinciding with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Essex, UK... |
Rochford District Glass BeadThe ceramic torch was created using Raku, the Japanese method of open air firing to create the lustrous surfaces on the torch, the central point for shiny, metallic and lustrous surfaces. A range of plastics and metals, including copper, aluminium, brass and tinplate steel were used (reflecting gold, silver, bronze) with recycled materials where possible. Images were engraved and etched onto these surfaces, reflecting the locations and recollections created by residents of Rochford District about their communties and a sense of place. The images wrap around the torch as the communities embrace the Olympic celebrations.
