A question that arose within M:E:E:T was the role of the sketchbook. M:E:E:T is all about the here and now, the what's going on, about where an artist is with their work, and where they're going. As much as we celebrate the continued achievements of artists within M:E:E:T, by blogging on www.artistsmeet.org and www.facebook.com/Artists-Meet, the focus is on moving forward, through critical engagement of work in progress. An ongoing conversation with one's own work, and with others; discussion opens new channels, perspectives and ways of thinking and communicating. How instrumental is the sketchbook in an artists' continued development? A year later, 'Safety Helmets Must Be Worn', a series of workshops exploring this question, and an exhibevent, aimed to explore the role of the sketchbook as the building site of artistic practice. How artists engage in creativity and playfulness, and where the artwork emerges from this chrysalis state, is the subject of this exhibevent. |
